Envelope Addressing
You took a lot of time and care in choosing your invitation, so that it reflects your personality and the atmosphere of your event. The invitations will create great excitement when they are received, and the first your guests will see of them will be the envelopes.
When your envelopes are hand-addressed in professional calligraphy, they complete this package beautifully and make a real impression in this age of computers and labels. This is one expense that Margo finds is not lost on the recipients--she hears back from clients that the invitations not only did not get lost in a pile of mail, but were exclaimed over and often become treasured keepsakes. Everyone loves to see their name in hand done calligraphy!
Margo pays great attention to all details, so that you don't have to worry about misspelled names, running short of envelopes or missing your mailing date. Margo is also very familiar with proper forms of address and other wedding protocols. She recommends that you read her
Tips on Preparing Your Mailing List as you begin this process.
Margo uses a number of
scripts for addressing envelopes (scripts are done by hand, fonts are by machine), and she can also imitate the font used on your invitations so that everything coordinates visually. If your invitations have been printed in color, Margo can mix her paints to match that exactly.
Schedule
Margo recommends that you contact her at least a month before your invitations are due from the printer to schedule addressing. It normally takes about two weeks to complete around 100 envelopes. Margo accepts guest lists in many formats—Word and Excel being the most common. It is most important that it be clear exactly how each line should read regardless of the format.
Pricing
If you have off-white or light colored envelopes without heavy liners that can be seen through, the cost for addressing them is normally $1.00 per line for most scripts. Simply Elegant, Bells & Whistles and Weaverwriting scripts are $1.50 per line, as they take more time to do. A $25.00 custom mixing charge applies to matching colors. If you have dark envelopes or heavy liners, the charge is $1.50 per line for most scripts, as the envelopes must be ruled and then erased.
Most addresses will be three lines long, however if you have two guests with different last names, apartment numbers, or international guests, these will create extra lines. If children or extra guests are to be listed on inner envelopes, likewise allow for more lines.
For an additional fee of $1.00 per envelope, Margo can stuff, stamp, seal and mail your envelopes. A deposit is expected when you deliver your envelopes and Margo begins her work.

The most commonly requested scripts that Margo can do are shown here. Italic and Copperplate script variations are most often used for weddings and poems or quotations. Some scripts, such as Bells and Whistles, Weaverwriting and Simply Elegant, are more time-consuming, and therefore more costly. When doing work for reproduction or pieces to be framed, Margo draws on even more scripts, which you can see in the
Commercial and
Project Gallery sections.

Besides placecards and/or escort cards, Margo can create table number or table name cards. Another elegant alternative is a matted and framed Seating Chart, which can become a keepsake. All of these items can be done in any
script with any color of ink. Margo has also taken on unusual projects for this purpose, such as handlettered sand dollars for a seashore theme, romantic personalized candle holders for an evening wedding, and handlettered limes for a Margarita-themed bridal shower, all of which are shown here!

Originating from both Quaker and Jewish traditions, where couples commit to their vows and guests witness the ceremony by signing a certificate, these documents can be highly individualized today. Two examples are shown here. Certificates can also simply show the names of the couple being joined, when and where, or add in members of the wedding party, or part of a poem or quotation from the ceremony. They can be decorated with ornate letters, or painted flowers in season or from the wedding. These are also a wonderful idea for commitment ceremonies.
| Traditionally, a couple’s first anniversary brings gifts made of paper.
Margo often creates pieces for this occasion, and many couples choose to have their vows or a poem from their ceremony handlettered, suitable for framing.
To the right are some examples. Margo also has done these projects for the couple to give to each other at the time of the wedding. |
